Rocks Revealed
the inside story....
This is a collection of beautiful pieces of rough stone, fossils, faceted gemstones and opals, many of which are then made into fine pieces of designer jewellery. There is not one piece for sale here that I would not be proud to wear or display in my own home.
Many of the stones that have been collected are slabbed, shaped and polished. This is the art of Lapidary, where faceting gemstones, shaping cabochons and chasing the colours of the opal gets into your blood. The art of silver smithing, of learning to manipulate silver and gold to set your stones is also a part of lapidary although a skill in it’s own right. To learn the secrets of Alchemy from finding a stone through to making a fine piece of jewellery allows you a creative licence that has endless possibilities.
The spiritual aspects of rocks that in turn complement our colour wheels, our chakras, that which can only aid and enhance our growth in helping our mind, body and souls to evolve to enlightenment is another beautiful facet of the stones.
It has become a passion to find and unlock what secrets the rocks hold, to see what nature has produced over billions of years.
For example, the thrill of the chase to reveal the colours of the rainbow in opals, polishing a piece of petrified wood from a tree that existed with the dinosaurs, finding fossils of creatures and plant life from beneath the sea that lay undisturbed waiting to be discovered over the millennium, to the amber that captures our tiny insect world, all preserved and precious... a story of life’s beginnings. I feel there can be no closer connection to the planets’ evolution, then when I am working and discovering what stories the rocks reveal.
The beautiful colours and textures in our own backyard, from the rich pink Rhodonite of Tamworth to the thunder eggs of Mt Tambourine, the amazing rings of the agates from Agate Creek, to the sapphires at Inverell, displays the wealth of stones and minerals that Australia has to offer.
I hope you enjoy your visit and may it encourage you to discover your own rock treasures and hopefully join a Lapidary club and become part of the "rock hound" family.
